Wildlife Monitoring & Protection

Safeguarding wildlife, protecting habitats, and promoting harmony between people and nature across our conservancy.

A Critical Wildlife Corridor

Naibunga Central Conservancy sits within one of Kenya's most important wildlife ecosystems. The conservancy serves as a critical corridor connecting the Laikipia-Isiolo-Samburu-Marsabit wildlife circuit, allowing elephants and other large mammals to move freely between habitats.

Our wildlife monitoring and protection programme employs community scouts and rangers to track wildlife populations, mitigate human-wildlife conflict, and protect against poaching. Through partnerships with the Northern Rangelands Trust and other organisations, we contribute to regional conservation efforts that benefit the wider ecosystem.

How We Protect Wildlife

Community Rangers & Daily Patrols

Our team of dedicated community rangers conducts daily foot and vehicular patrols across the conservancy's 28,437 acres. Trained in wildlife tracking, anti-poaching tactics, and field monitoring, these scouts serve as the front line of defense for endangered species while maintaining safety for local residents.

Wildlife Census & Ecological Tracking

To maintain a healthy ecosystem, we conduct regular wildlife counts and biodiversity assessments. By recording seasonal movements, birth rates, and animal health, our teams gather critical ecological data that informs adaptive management strategies across the Laikipia ecosystem.

Human-Wildlife Conflict Mitigation

Because Naibunga Central forms a vital corridor for migratory elephants and large carnivores, human-wildlife encounters are inevitable. We work directly with pastoralist communities to deploy rapid-response teams, erect deterrent fencing around farmland, and establish early-warning channels to prevent conflict before it occurs.

Habitat Protection & Restoration

Wildlife protection extends beyond anti-poaching to encompass ecosystem health. Through targeted rangeland rehabilitation, water point management, and invasive plant eradication, we ensure native flora thrives to sustain both wild herbivores and domestic herds.
